About
Chess, running, financial independence, and why I keep building things that don't exist yet.
Hi, I'm Gorm, a software engineer from Denmark. I studied Software Engineering (BSc + MSc) at the University of Southern Denmark, and these days I mostly build things I think should exist.
Why I build things
I keep asking myself why this doesn't exist yet. That's usually where a project starts. I want to build for normal people, not enterprises. I want to help people understand their own possibilities, what their time and salary are actually worth, and what's actually achievable. That's basically what Firecasting is for. I'm into the financial independence movement and minimalism, which probably explains a lot of that.
I also think we're running caveman brains through a modern world, and there are real, learnable ways to work with that instead of against it. It starts with how we learn and remember things. That's where Loci comes from. It's meant to make it easier for people to explore and actually retain new ideas.
Where I think software is going
I think we're heading toward a lot more small businesses, companies, and even countries building their own software, and not just apps, production lines too. New software gets built faster every year, and I don't see that slowing down. AI feels like the next step in that abstraction chain, same as compilers and frameworks before it. I think software engineers will spend less time writing code and more time orchestrating agents.
Outside of code
Chess, sudoku, and running. I do half marathons too. Gaming with friends: League of Legends, Counter-Strike, indie games, and some World of Warcraft back in the day. Otherwise it's board games and beers with the same group of friends.
